A few years ago I made a different type of New Year’s Resolution. Instead of vowing to exercise more, lose weight or get more organized, I decided to learn more about wine. I highly recommend this type of as a resolution. Each year, in December I know more about wine than I did the previous January. The more that I learn, the more that I find that I don’t know. Therefore, although I have succeeded each year, I can make the same resolution again for the next year.
This journey has led me from reading Red Wine for Dummies to a wine appreciation course and finally to working my way through sommelier courses.
I have gone from making my own wine to travelling to Italy, Spain and Portugal on wine tours. The experiences that I have had and the people I have met on this journey have certainly enriched my life.
So this year, after the Champagne, Cava and Prosecco are finished; consider a positive resolution like mine and see where it leads you. It does not have to be about wine, but finding a passion and learning more about it, can certainly enrich your life.
P.S. I no longer make my own wine and the Red Wine for Dummies book is gone.
